In the fall of 2006, K-PAX Racing team owner Jim Haughey met with Bob Raub, a long-time racer and car builder, to discuss the possibilities of a new race effort for the coming season. Using the Porsche 911 GT3 car as a base, three cars were built to SCCA World Challenge GT specifications. Drivers Michael Galati and Randy Pobst were brought on to fill the seats, and the team began to take shape. The two-car effort, K-PAX Racing, has become a high-caliber championship-winning race team in the SCCA World Challenge GT Series.

In 2007 and 2008, driver Randy Pobst captured the Driver’s Championship. In 2008, he and teammate Michael Galati took K-Pax Racing to a Manufacturers’ Championship in their Porsches. In two seasons, they captured six wins, six poles, 26 top-5 finishes and 31 top 10s.

For the 2009 season, 2008 GT Driver Champion Randy Pobst and 2005 GT Driver Champion Andy Pilgrim teamed up in 2.5-liter, turbocharged 2009 Volvo S60 AWDs to make a run for the Manufacturers’ Championship. With support from Volvo North America, the team built a competitive new platform from the chassis up. Designing, machining and assembling most of the car in-house, the motors were built by Mahle and transmissions by Weismann.

“We at are very excited at the opportunity we have been given to engineer and build all-new cars and bring a new manufacturer back to the series," Bob Raub said. “We know that this is not an easy task or one that will not be without its share of problems and failings, but through those problems and failings we will work hard to have success for Jim, Volvo, Randy and Andy.”

K-PAX Racing campaigned Volvo S60s in the World Challenge GT class and Volvo C30s in the TC class through the 2013 season. In the team’s final season with Volvo, it collected 10 podium finishes with four wins in the GT class.

For 2014, K-PAX welcomed two McLaren 12C GT3s into its garage, helmed by returning K-PAX GT driver Alex Figge and Robert Thorne, who drove a Volvo C30 for K-PAX Racing in 2012. Following a season concluded by a victory in the season finale, the team continued its relationship with the manufacturer the following three seasons by updating to the McLaren 650S GT3 model.

In 2016, McLaren Factory Driver Alvaro Parente won six times, giving K-PAX Racing its first championship since 2010. In 2017, K-PAX Racing not only continued to compete in the Sprint GT class, but also participated in the series’ SprintX class. Altogether, the team captured 11 podiums in 11 events – also eclipsing the 100-podium milestone early-on in the season.

“Success is really about all the people involved,” said Haughey after achieving the milestone. “It’s about the team coming together and doing what you couldn’t individually do. It’s about creating something bigger and better than what you can do individually.”

In pursuit of its second championship in a three-year span, K-PAX Racing announced that it will field three Bentley Continental GT3 cars for the 2018 season.
